MOMENTUM has long history with potter Tena Payne. Today Tena is a successful Alabama artist, long ago outgrowing her home-based studio, and whose work and business is nationally recognized.
Tena Payne is the Owner and Designer of Earthborn Studios, Inc., serving the niche market of high-end chefs designing functional dinnerware and serviceware for the food and hospitality industry, and also providing work to retail accounts across the country. Clients include Hot & Hot Fish Club, Birmingham; Jia at The Beau Rivage, Biloxi; Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City; Tangerine in Philadelphia; Bellagio Resort & Casino, Las Vegas; Treasure Island Resort & Casino, Las Vegas; and more.
Tena has been a dedicated and accomplished potter since the 1970’s. She has been actively involved in the leadership of the Alabama clay community and is a charter member of the prominent co-operative fine-art gallery, Artists Incorporated. Tena also serves as the alternate Alabama representative to the American Craft Council. In 2009 she was a “Make Mine a Million” winner. Tena was selected as a Forbes Magazine Boost Your Business, National Small Business Competition for Earthborn Studios, Inc. Top 5 Winner in 2009. Tena and her creations have been featured in many national and regional publications, and chefs across the county have come to depend on her to create unique serving pieces to showcase their culinary creations.
Tena is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Samford University. When not working in clay, Tena enjoys solo whitewater canoeing, camping, growing shiitake mushrooms, and cooking. Her husband of over 30 years work together in the business.
